This tour i a perfect way to spend the day if you have landed in Dublin from a cruise ship and wish to have a beautifully scenic tour away from the hustle and bustle of the city.
After you have been collected we will drive through the Wicklow Mountains with stunning scenery and peat bogs, We will stop at beautiful lakes. such as Lough Tay, Guinness Lake and one of the locations for the movie Brave Heart, for some excellent photo opportunities.
We will visit the monastic city of Glendalough. We will visit the Upper Lake. Glendalough is home to one of the most important monastic sites in Ireland. This early Christian monastic settlement was founded by St. Kevin in the 6th century and from this developed the “Monastic City”. Most of the buildings that survive today date from the 10th through 12th centuries. Despite attacks by Vikings over the years, Glendalough thrived as one of Ireland’s great ecclesiastical foundations and schools of learning until the Normans destroyed the monastery in 1214 A.D. and the dioceses of Glendalough and Dublin were united.
Our next stop will be The Avoca Hand Weavers which dates back to 1723 and is the oldest hand weavers In Ireland. You will enjoy the Mill tour and the restaurant and the local craft shop is well worth a visit.
From there our final stop will be Powerscourt House and Gardens which were voted the 3rd most beautiful Gardens in Ireland in 2014.
This is a very enjoyable tour with a great mix of history, scenery and fun for all ages.
