Giants Causeway and Game of Thrones Tour

Giants Causeway and Game of Thrones Tour

Join us on this breath-taking day tour to the Giant’s Causeway on the Northern Irish Atlantic coastline.  A UNESCO world heritage site, the Causeway was created over 60 million years ago by extreme, intense volcanic activity; although local legends suggest that it was a tribe of giants that formed the hexagonal columns.

According to legend, Irish giant Fionn mac Cumhaill (Finn MacCool) was challenged to a fight by the Scottish giant Benandonner.  Fionn accepted the challenge and built the causeway across the North Channel so that the two giants could meet. In one version of the story, Fionn defeats Benandonner. In another, Fionn hides from Benandonner when he realises that his foe is much bigger than he is. Fionn’s wife, Oonagh, disguises Fionn as a baby and tucks him in a cradle. When Benandonner sees the size of the ‘baby’, he reckons that its father, Fionn, must be a giant among giants. He flees back to Scotland in fright, destroying the causeway behind him so that Fionn would be unable to chase him down. Across the sea, there are identical basalt columns (a part of the same ancient lava flow) at Fingal’s Cave on the Scottish isle of Staffa.

In addition to the natural rock formations, there are many varieties of flora and fauna to see at Giant’s Causeway making it a must-see location for botanists and bird watchers alike.

The Causeway Visitor Centre is managed by The National Trust and includes an information office, Bureau de Change, an audio-visual presentation, souvenir shop and tea rooms.

This tour takes approximately 12 Hours.

From Our Clients

“If you don’t like what we tell us, if you do tell others”

“From then moment we first made contact with Custom Irish Tours we know our trip to Ireland was going to be special, Derek is such freiendly and knowledgeable tour guide. There no questions he couldnt answer.”

Ted Norman

Boca Raton, Florida

“Derek was very responsive and we emailed back and forth several times to tailor an itinerary to fit our needs. He also served as our guide and driver. He picked us up from outside our Airbnb, and after a few tour stops, we quickly formed the impression that he’s on a first name basis with everyone in County Meath!”

Joesph H

We had a lovely day with Derek on the Newgrange Tour. His van was comfortable, and he was an excellent driver. His knowledge of the area is extensive, enhanced by his deep family roots in County Meath. His commitment to preservation and historical accuracy is evident.
We highly recommend this tour.

Lisa

Texas

“Derek was very easy to work with and even offered to pick us up at the airport. Our whole family was tired and hungry after the long international flight, but Derek knew exactly what we needed, before we did. He went above and beyond even giving my cranky son, the snack he bought for himself and throughout our day together seamlessly adjusted the plans to what he knew would suit our family best.

Our children ranging in age from 17-10 found climbing on the castles (the ones Derek himself climbed on as a boy) to be one of the highlights of our trip. We would not hesitate for one second to book Derek again, he was wonderful…highly recommend!”
